Miroslava Duma and Peace Planet Charity Dinner

Tommy Ton and Miroslava Duma

Earlier this week Tommy Ton and Miroslava Duma jetted in to Dubai to collaborate with us on our Spring/Summer 2012 campaign. Tommy, the legendary street-style photographer of Jak&Jil fame turned his lens on Mira who wore a selection of SS12 samples from the likes of Jason Wu, Alessandra Rich, Rachel Zoe, Naeem Khan and Luisa Beccaria – all of the stunning ensembles will be available to procure at Symphony from mid-Feb (images of the campaign will be released soon).

Ahead of the shoot day on Saturday the 28th of Jan, Symphony partnered with Mira and her charity Peace Planet to host an intimate dinner at Level 123, the Burj Khalifa. The dinner was attended by a small crowd of socialites and fashion lovers, tickets were priced at 1000dhs with 100% of the money going directly to Peace Planet – specifically three children which were trying to help who are in desperate need of life-saving medical attention: Ivan, Egor and Alina.

The children we were raising money for at this special event. Please note the direct bank details of Peace Planet should you feel compelled to assist with this wonderful cause. More details: www.peaceplanet.ru

The dinner  featured a delectable three-course menu. Level 123 of the Burj Khalifa provided the guests with spectacular views of the city and fountains – which Tommy and Mira were both in awe of.

Alongside an intimate dinner with Miroslava Duma and Tommy Ton, guests were invited to partake in a silent auction which featured several ‘money can’t buy’ experiences – the proceeds of which, will also, 100% go to Peace Planet and the three children.

The guest of honour of the evening – Mira’s Chanel Bag which both Tommy and Holly were rather taken with…

It’s going to be a hot one! SS12 newbies revealed

Goodbye 2011! Ciao Autumn/Winter collections. Sayonara dark romance, black, brown, leather and velvet…. and HELLO Spring/Summer 2012! Are you as excited for the new season – complete with fresh colour palettes, hem lines, fabrics and shapes – as us? Well we should think so too! Symphony is bursting with delightful new Cruise 2012 pieces right now (see here) which offer a peek at what’s to come for the new Summer season. So what is new at Symphony for SS12? Jeez. We thought you’d never ask…

JENNY PACKHAM READY-TO-WEAR & ACCESSORIES – NEW

A cascade of vibrant colour, the 2012 accessories collection complements the Jenny Packham SS12 catwalk collection; a delightful offering of fairytale embellished gowns; Grecian-inspired looks and bias cuts that wouldn’t look out of place on HRH the Duchess of Cambridge – already a firm fan of Packham’s designs. The colour palette features an explosion of pretty jelly-bean-esque colours including lemon, lime, tangerine and cherry red.  Inspired by nature’s rainbow: a kaleidoscope of dazzling hues, the 2012 Jenny Packham accessory range comprises ethereal head pieces, bracelets, collars and belts spanning a vivid spectrum of flamingo pinks, royal blues and golden opals. Dramatic and colourful, the collection fuses the deco style of 1930s Paris with the glamour of old Hollywood: romantic and opulent headpieces are embellished with delicate beaded flowers, undulating strands of fine silver or rich noir and shimmering crystals; opal pear and oval crystal jewels in a plethora of bold tones emulate decadence, whilst shimmering pearls lend a regal air to any look. Exquisite bejewelled belts on luxurious French silk ribbons and grosgrain are new to the collection this season and take inspiration from the vintage inspired beading in the SS12 collection. Jenny Packham’s A-list fans include the Duchess of Cambridge, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Emily Blunt, Reece Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Aniston and Beyonce.

KATIE ERMILIO READY-TO-WEAR  - NEW & EXCLUSIVE

As the Granddaughter of Grace Kelly’s personal clothier, it’s easy to see a sense of history in Katie Ermilio’s clothes. From the iconic green jacket her Grandfather designed for Augusta’s Masters Tournament, to the Eisenhower jacket he created for WWII, Katie’s legacy has inspired not only her love of fashion, but also the garments she creates. Designing clothes from the time she was eleven, Katie continues to draw on the heritage that shapes her work. At sixteen, a life-long education in textiles and tailoring acquired in her father’s custom clothing shop and acquainted Katie with the principles of construction and the fundamentals of design. Infusing each distinctly feminine piece with sharp tailoring and soft drape, her clothes embody the modern interpretation of timeless dress. Following her love of fashion to NYC, Katie held internships at Vogue magazine’s fashion and features department before graduating to a position in public relations at Teen Vogue. Today, Katie’s work has been featured on Teen Vogue’s very pages and in publications ranging from The Wall Street Journal to Lucky Magazine, WWD, Marie Claire and British Vogue. The New York Times Style Blog The Moment, Elle.com and Fashionista have each highlighted her collections and career in design.

MARCHESA ACCESSORIES – NEW

British born Georgina and Keren met at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London. Georgina, a 2001 graduate of the Wimbledon School of Art, began her career as a costume designer. Keren graduated from Brighton Art College in 2000 and subsequently focused on print and embroidery design. Georgina’s draping and design expertise paired with Keren’s textile creations resulted in a business partnership and the establishment of Marchesa in 2004. Elegant eveningwear, inspired by vintage and Asian influences, defines the Marchesa Collection. The beautifully crafted designs fuse high fashion with an eclectic aesthetic. Co-founded by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, the company’s namesake and muse, Marchesa Luisa Casati, is the noted eccentric European style icon. The accessories line, new to Symphony for Spring/Summer 2012, features gorgeously feminine bags adorned with crystals, feathers and other opulent embellishments following in the same vein as the eponymous ready-to-wear collections.

MARIA GRACHVOGEL READY-TO-WEAR – NEW

Maria Grachvogel is a well-loved label of all aficionados of fine design. Established in 1994 and shown for the first time at London Fashion Week in 1995, the Maria Grachvogel label is a secret of many of the world’s most stylish women including Angelina Jolie, Marie Helvin, Hayley Atwell, and Yasmin Le Bon. Although Maria originally worked from her studio in South Molton Street, 2001 saw the opening of her beautiful Sloane Street store, which subsequently became the brand’s centre of innovation and creativity. Maria has a deep understanding of a woman’s form and shape, and there is a huge amount of integrity in her work. The cut of Maria Grachvogel clothes is incredibly skilful, and essentially unique. The lines are clean, with seams engineered to sculpt the silhouette in a way that that can only be understood fully when worn. Even the most basic item; a classic pair of trousers when cut by Maria lengthen the legs and narrow the hips, which has prompted stockists and clients to call them ‘magic pants’. Each season her hand printed fabrics and elegant tailoring, timeless daywear and couture collection continue to evolve with ever more ingenuity.

MICHAEL VAN DER HAM READY-TO-WEAR – NEW & EXCLUSIVE

Now on his sixth collection Michael Van Der Ham has firmly positioned himself as one of the most notable NEWGEN designers. Van der Ham initiated his design foray with a number of invaluable internships with well-respected design houses including Alexander McQueen and Sophia Kokosalaki and As Four, before taking a place on the highly coveted Central Saint Martins MA course. His graduation collection was extraordinarily well received and led to him showing at London Fashion Week. Van Der Ham has a distinct aesthetic achieved by mismatching unusual fabrics and a subtlety of cut. His signature style has led to sell-out collections amongst highly respected stockists and established Van Der Ham as the most exciting design talent of his generation. For Spring/Summer 2012 Van Der Ham designed with Joseph Szabo’s photography in min, which provided a grungier, laid-back woman to be inspired by. He took a mixture of vintage silhouettes, combining these with his signature collaging, then modernised them to make them more appropriate for the girl in Szabo’s photography. Michael was also inspired by an eclectic mix of vintage print including abstract brush strokes, confetti, feather print, geometric designs and hybrids of multiple prints which feature on crepe de chines, open-weave cottons and textured silk satin.

NAEEM KHAN READY-TO-WEAR – NEW

Many of the world’s most stylish women are devotees to one of the biggest names in fashion; Naeem Khan. Committed to adorning the elegant women in clothes befitting their refinement, his glittering fan base of starlets and socialites included Beyonce, Eva Longoria, Penelope Cruz, Carrie Underwood and Katherine Heigl as well as First Lady Michelle Obama and Queen Noor of Jordan. His luxurious collections consist of impeccably cut dresses, sophisticated gowns and chic separates – all embroidered by hand. Khan was born in India and grew up surrounded by the beauty of his culture, architecture, history and design. He cultivated his vast knowledge of textiles under his the watchful eyes of his grandfather and father; both well known in India for designing intricate clothing worn by the royal families. For Spring/Summer 2012 Khan was inspired by Edith Head and Ava Gardner in ‘The Barefoot Contessa’. Gowns featured scratched feather beading which give the appearance of cracked ice, spare sunburst beading and  voluminous ball gown silhouettes with magpie embellishments; all of which reportedly took six hundred pairs of hands to make!

RACHEL ZOE READY-TO-WEAR – NEW

Rachel Zoe embodies luxury. Her iconic style is glamorous, vintage inspired andeffortless. By combining all the experience and knowledge of her years as a stylist withdesigner silhouettes, the Rachel Zoe Collection provides accessible luxury and head-to-toe looks. As one of the top stylists in the world, Rachel made a name for herself amongst celebrities and high profile personalities by singlehandedly bringing the vintage movement into fruition with her devotion to the style eras of the 1960s and 1970s. Her love and knowledge of haute couture coupled with her desire to create the unexpected red carpet moments by adding prints, color and avant-garde trends made her the go-to stylist for the Hollywood elite. With unprecedented success in red carpet dressing, Rachel Zoe’s clients became a fixture on countless best-dressed lists. In addition to her work as a stylist, Rachel has authored a New York Times Bestselling book, “Style A to Zoe”; served as a contributing editor to numerous fashion magazines and has starred in and executive produced “The Rachel Zoe Project,” airing in over 15 countries around the world. Speaking about her new Spring/Summer collection Zoe says “I think the ultimate accomplishment for me with this collection is its versatility. The collection honestly fits into any lifestyle; it mixes elements of downtown edge, like the Zoe fur bomber or Lauren military jacket, with uptown sophistication and glamour, like the Peggy sequin shift dress or Hutton tuxedo blazer. I guess you could say I was catering this collection to women who love fashion, appreciate comfort and crave glamour. Women who are not afraid to take risks, and, above all, women who are confident. ”

SHAKUHACHI READY-TO-WEAR – NEW

If you could isolate the fashion gene and sell it on the black market, Jessie White could ice her DNA for a mint. For her, designing clothes is more than a professional pursuit – it’s a necessity. A sense that formal training might derail her innate artistic instinct, Jessie White side- stepped convention in favour of a more free-style approach to design. Shakuhachi – birthed almost a decade ago – was a result of the kind of creative experimentation and kaleidoscopic vision reserved for artistic savants and the slightly insane. Season after season White has proved an uncanny ability to peg what her fashion savvy customer will go berserk over, spinning fresh, vanguard threads woven from her own unique aesthetic sensibility. The Spring/Summer 2012 collection marks a new direction for Shakuhachi, reflective of the ever-evolving fashion landscape. Refined tailoring and attention to detail create a polished and feminine aesthetic, elevating the label to a new level of sophistication. Original prints and fresh, sexy silhouettes are stamped with a distinctly ‘Shakuhachi’ sense of playful irony and kitsch. A prolific player in the Australian fashion industry for almost a decade, Shakuhachi has cultivated a substantial global presence and a broad, enduring following. Worn by celebs and style mavens alike, Shakuhachi’s multi-limbed expansion continues to enjoy rapid mutation both nationally and internationally, with over one hundred stockists throughout Australia, UK, USA and Asia.

ZAC POSEN READY-TO-WEAR – NEW

Zac Posen launched his namesake label at the tender age of 21. His first show—in 2002, in a former synagogue on the Lower East Side—received mixed reviews, but generated major buzz among young socials (including Barbara Bush) and industry insiders. Posen’s work has gained respect for its increasingly streamlined aesthetic of forties-inflected tailoring, mermaid-esque gowns, and itty-bitty cocktail frocks. He enlisted his mother Susan as CEO (she has since stepped down, and serves as Chairman) and his sister Alexandra as creative director, and in 2004, Sean Combs became a much-publicized backer. That same year, the CFDA gave Posen Swarovski’s Perry Ellis Award for Womenswear. Fragrance and diffusion lines are on the pike for 2009. For Spring/Summer 2012 Posen focused on cut and fit with the accent firmly on the waist, he paired narrow, elongated jackets with high armholes and pencil skirts, and whipped up party dresses with flaring, knee-length hems. Posen was inspired by the female form, this collection incorporates archetypal feminine techniques such as ruffles, embroidery, and lace, with Zac Posen’s signature silhouettes and construction. Vibrant colours of peony, celadon, and blade green, combine with floral bouquet prints and detailed corded embroidery to create a collection perfect for the American royalty of today.

Keep Your Head Up by Ben Howard

We love this song by Ben Howard – so perfect for the first (and rather difficult) week at work and back-to-normality-woes one might feel after all the festivities at the end of last year. Happy 2012 Symphony Stylers!

What a year!

A LOOK AT OUR FAVOURITE MOMENTS IN 2011…

Happy New Year Symphony Stylers and HELLO 2012! Wow, what a year 2011 was too! We take a look back at a few of our favourite moments in 2011… Make sure you share you favourite moments from the last year with us too - Tweet us or leave a message on our Facebook wall.

LAUNCHING OUR MAGAZINE: THE SYMPHONY EDIT

The first edition of The Symphony Edit for Spring/Summer 2011

When we first officially opened in August 2010 we launched with a ‘mini magazine’; a small brochure if you will. But for our first full, proper season we wanted to wow our Symphony Family with a special publication – The Symphony Edit, which launched with the Spring/Summer 2011 season in February last year. Since then we have published two editions with another one out by the end of next month (the Spring/Summer 2012 issue). We have been overwhelmed by your positive feedback and are glad to hear that you all enjoy flicking through the pages…

The second edition of The Symphony Edit for Autumn/Winter 2011

DISCOVERING THE MUSIC OF LANA DEL REY

Along with the rest of the world, when we first heard Lana’s haunting vocals on ‘Video Games’ we were mesmerised, then when we heard the follow up ‘Blue Jeans’ we were hooked. At the end of 2011 Lana dropped her third single of the year, ‘Born to Die’ which also marks the title of her debut album out in a couple of weeks. Suffice to say: we can not wait!

THE UAE TURNING FORTY

When the UAE turned forty on December 2nd 2011 it was a special moment  - to think that a country could rise out of the desert so spectacularly in such a short space of time is mind boggling mashallah. We are so proud, blessed and grateful to call the UAE home.

SHOOTING OUR AUTUMN/WINTER 2011 CAMPAIGN

It was so much fun to get back together with the lovely Raina Hein from America’s Next Top Model who starred in our inaugural campaign for Symphony back in October 2010. We were all a year older and wiser and really loved involving Alden and working with two models – double the clothes and double the fun!

DISCOVERING PINTEREST

We don’t want to say we prefer it to Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr (but we probably do #JustSayin’) but Pinterest was easily one of the most visited sites of 2011 at Symphony Style HQ. Gone are the days when one might have to traipse google images for hours on end looking for a certain pretty picture, or the days when we had to trawl through dozens of blogs to get inspiration. Pinterest has it all and we are eternally grateful to its inventors! Join us on Pinterest here

CELEBRATING SYMPHONY’S FIRST BIRTHDAY WITH ANNA DELLO RUSSO

<iframe class=”framed” width=”868″ height=”471″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/CunEOM_wc7o” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

We were on cloud 9 when Anna Dello Russo – international style icon, fashion veteran and Vogue Nippon Creative Director accepted our invitation to visit Dubai and celebrate Symphony’s first birthday with us. What could be better? Anna was so inspiring and we feel so blessed to have hosted her and share such a magical experience with our beloved Symphony family!

GOSSIP GIRL

Boy did Gossip Girl pull it out of the bag in 2011! But the last episode of 2011 was particularly cruel (grrr GG producers)… does Chuck die? Is Blair’s baby okay? Will Charlie finally be exposed? What was Diana talking about in the car at the end? It is just too much for us Symphony Styler’s! One thing is for sure – January 16th can not come fast enough. Yalla Gossip Girl xoxo

TWO ROYAL WEDDINGS

Two public weddings captivated us in 2011 (not to mention numerous private weddings of course) – both Royal in their own little way. One strictly royal belonging to Prince William and his bride Catherine Middleton and the other of fashion royalty, for supermodel Kate Moss and rock star fiance Jamie Hince. Moss opted for a fairytale, vintage-esque Galliano, whilst Middleton silenced her fashion critics and had everyone rejoicing when she opted for Alexander McQueen headed by Sarah Burton.

THE RISE OF # AND TWITTER

It may have been created by a gentleman called Jack Dorsey in 2006, but 2011 was Twitter’s year; boasting over 300 million users by the years end. Twitter has also single handedly changed the meaning of # from its typical use for ‘number’ to ‘TREND’. In fact, its effect has been so astronomical that we often find ourselves thinking in # (example: “I want a coffee #now) and we are definitely guilty of using it on Twitter’s worst enemy… Facebook. Tweet-crazy like us? You know what to do… @SymphonyTweets

COLLABORATING WITH OXFAM FOR AUTUMN/WINTER 2011

Charity and giving back are vital to the Symphony concept, for AW11 we were delighted to partner with the Oxfam charity and help them to raise over 36,00dhs for their amazing causes. We also had one of the best nights of 2011 at their Charity Gala Dinner in collaboration with Dubai Cares and DIFF which was attended by Owen Wilson and Helena Christensen and hosted at one of the most beautiful venues in Dubai – the Terrace at The Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa.

THE IT BAG WITH THE SMALL(ER) PRICE TAG

Never has anything sold out faster at Symphony than our Cambridge Satchel Company buy for Autumn/Winter 2011 – a record breaking three days! The CSC’s iconic leather satchels – in a variety of colours – were only on the shoulders of the most stylish in 2011. Symphony still receives daily calls enquiring about these cult bags and we are happy to confirm that a new order is on its way very, very soon! Keep updated with new arrivals on our Facebook and Twitter page to make sure you don’t miss out or call us on 04 330 8050 to be added to the (rather long) waiting list.

MINI FASHION ICON

When we spotted Alexander Wang’s two-year-old niece, Alia, backstage at his runway show in September 2011 wearing a head-to-toe custom-made Alexander Wang outfit, we almost died on the spot. Too adorable Alia!

And last but not least… CONFIRMING SOMETHING BIG FOR SYMPHONY IN 2012

We hate to tease but the highlight of 2011 came right at the very last gasp for us when we confirmed something HUGE for 2012! We are so excited to start 2012 with a BANG and hope you will all be as excited as we are – we will let you know our big news in a few weeks time! Eeeek!

Wishing you all a prosperous and healthy 2012!

xoxo
