Miroslava Duma pays us a visit

Image courtesy of @MiraDuma Instragram account

Dear friend, and star of our Spring/Summer 2012 campaign with Tommy Ton (see here), Mira Duma, paid a visit to Symphony earlier this week, turning her favourite app – Instagram – on us. Click here for more pictures.

Mira loved seeing her BFF Vika Gazinskaya’s collection hanging at the boutique and was desperate to try out one of our abaya’s (unfortunately we had sold out – more coming soon!)

Make Your Own Turban with Omer Asim

Sudanese, London-based designer Omer Asim’s new collection for Autumn/Winter 2012 has just arrived at Symphony, this season’s collection includes a chic oversized scarf (see here), Omer shows us how to transform this into a chic turban with this step-by-step guide…

Designer Omer Asim

The secret of this headpiece lies in the character of the fabric used, which is both stiff and soft the simplest folds created by this fabric are self-supporting and elegantly structured.

Preparation: You will need to cut a length of 75cm from my AW12 oversized scarf/shawl, available at Symphony, The Dubai Mall now. Measure the length of the 75cm along the folds of the pleats making sure the pleats are closed and not stretched out when measuring. Explaining how to tie and wrap a headpiece/turban in words with the aid of visuals is bit tricky! I will keep it simple, but I do encourage you to play around with the suggested techniques and fabrics! Enjoy!

Lots of Love

Omer

1 // Fold the fabric into half along the pleat direction and drape on your head as shown above, this is a back view, but you can also tie it from the front for a different effect. Make sure the raw edges run along your forehead. The fabric should drape as shown, note the numbers on either side.

2// Looking at the head from the back, hold down side 1 and swing the two raw edged layers (side 2) over side 1 to the opposite direction.

3// As you pull side 2 tighter, a hollow structure resembling a shell will form (see above). Carefully twist the whole piece to place this shell-like form where you want it.

4// Carry on wrapping the end of side 2 around the head until it meets the other end of side 1.

5// Tie or pin the two side ends together to hold down the headpiece, and tuck in the ends for a clean finish.

Voila! The finished product!

The new velvet manicure at Sister’s

You may remember our love for the Caviar Manicure by Ciate at Sister’s , well this time we visited our favourite salon to test run the new Velvet Manicure. Ciate’s latest product is available now at Sister’s Beauty Salon. Here’s what happened…

The process is quite similar to the Caviar, a normal manicure is given and then a undercoat, then two layers of your desired velvet shade polish (we opted for navy), but this time instead of the caviar beads, velvet “dust” is sprinkled over your wet nail and perfectly arranged with a brush, the excess is wiped off and voila! Velvet fingertips! This treatment should be reserved for a special occasion since it is not long lasting, it stayed perfectly for 24 hours, after which time the velvetness started to fade and we were left with a matt polish. We can’t wait to return to try the red colour.
