Prabal Gurung Pre Fall 2013

For Pre Fall 2013, Prabal Gurung drew his inspiration from Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film, Romeo and Juliet. Luhrmann’s use of vibrant, youthful colours and mixed textures are seen throughout the collection. Gurung first saw the film while studying in India, where he was absorbed in fashion magazines, particularly back issues of the Versace catalogues sold throughout the streets of Delhi. There was a clear parallel between these two worlds of cinema and
reality, which serve as the foundation for this season’s inspiration.

The collection offers sophisticated and clean silhouettes with a youthful, modern vocabulary. There is a reference to dressing up and looking feminine but with an undercurrent of defiance. The fabrics seen throughout include metallic tweeds, windowpane organza, black and white lace motif fil coupe, xeroxprinted jacquard, printed crepe de chine in plaid and lily print, and four-ply crepe gowns.

Olympia Le Tan Novel Clutch

Olympia Le Tan’s iconic novel clutches are a new and exclusive addition to Symphony for Spring/Summer 2013. After our first delivery sold out a few weeks ago, we have received two more pieces including this adorable Jane Eyre clutch, 6865dhs at Symphony, The Dubai Mall now. There is only one in the UAE and only 77 in the whole world, so the question is – who will be the lucky owner?

EK Thongprasert

Aldous Huxley once said that “The secret of genius is to carry the spirit of the child”, which is exactly how we feel when we wear Belgian-based jewellery line EK Thongprasert. The silicon beads and gem shaped dolls which adorn our favourite piece (pictured above) recall childhood memories of candy necklaces and playing dress up. Pierre Hardy Kicks

This weekend we fancy a spot of culture. We’ll be making a trip to The Ara Gallery in Downtown Dubai to see their latest exhibition The Dara Chronicles in which Maisoon Al Saleh presents a solo exhibition of artworks—from digital paintings to mixed-media prints— that explores retold stories and documented accounts about the M.V. Dara passenger liner explosion on April 8th, 1961. Beginning with an exploratory dive at the Dara gravesite, Al Saleh begins to discover and research the event experienced and retold from different personal perspectives.

Then we will take a wander around Bastikiya, enjoy the incredible halloumi and cucumber sandwich at the XVA Hotel Cafe with a lemon & mint juice and then head off to Global Village to barter with the market sellers for things we don’t need, before it closes for the summer.

We think these Pierre Hardy kicks for Spring/Summer 2013 are the perfect campaign for an active weekend of sightseeing and culture – impossibly cool and wonderfully comfy! Happy weekend all!
