OPENING CEREMONY CRUISE & SPRING/SUMMER 2013

The duo behind Opening Ceremony – a multibrand enterprise, ready-to-wear label and the name behind numerous collaborations and special projects – Humberto Leon and Carol Lim – are a force to be reckoned with. The Spring/Summer 2013 season captures the youthful, athletic spirit of Opening Ceremony’s cruise collection (also available at Symphony) while evolving to a more refined ready-to-wear collection. Mirroring a progression from cheeky and whimsical to bold and sleek, the colour palette begins with an array of watery fruit sorbets and finishes with more saturated jewel and fluorescent tones – from flamingo pinks and marigold yellows to cobalt blues. This womenswear collection finds expansive inspiration in the striking color and texture combinations of Memphis Group art, Key West hotel and motel décor, Postmodern interior design, natural elements in Floridian landscapes, and assortments of fruit such as pineapples, cherries, and grapes. Subtle architectural references to “gingerbread” molding and Victorian awnings areevident in the collection’s use of scalloped cutouts, pointelle, and eyelets. The element of water makes an impactful statement throughout the collection, from pattern references to the underside of pool tiles and abstract laminate, to the wavy seams in fluid taffeta pieces, to an abundance of cerulean and seafoam hues.
