Tata Naka
TATA NAKA CRUISE & SPRING/SUMMER 2013
Tata-Naka is designed by identical twins, Tamara and Natasha Surguladze, born in Tbilisi, Georgia, 1978. The name Tata-Naka originated from their childhood nicknames and thus was an organic choice when deciding on a signature name for the brand. The two sisters arrived in London in 1996 to study design at Central St Martin‟s. On graduating in the year 2000 Barneys NYC dedicated a wall to their awe-inspiring collection. The British Fashion Council that is globally renowned for being the launch platform for emerging talent has consecutively granted Tata-Naka with the celebrated “New Generation” award at London Fashion Week and has seen the brand blossom into an independent UK luxury design house with 2013 being their 13th anniversary in the industry. Ambassadors include Cameron Diaz, Mina Suvari and Sarah Jessica Parker. For Spring/Summer 2013 prints are a play on the traditional oil painting over the mantelpiece beloved of many society mavens but reborn as hand painted portraits against Chinoiserie or bold florals in vibrant shades that contrast and complement at the same time. The collection is inspired by the images of Slim Aarons who had experienced so much horror as a war photographer that he decided to spend the rest of his life as a social photographer, taking pictures of beautiful socialites, sun drenched swimming pools, jet-set locations like Palm Beach, Acapulco, Monte Carlo, Capri and the glamorous resorts of the Amalfi Coast. By capturing the light-hearted, elegant and carefree existences Aarons found a way “…to make the world a better place to live in…”
